Stage to Page
Thurles Musical Society to Launch History Book
Thurles Musical Society will launch it's history book ' Stage to Page - A History of Thurles Musical Society' on Sunday October 30th in the Anner Hotel as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations.
An open invitation is being extended to everyone to attend this gala event which will feature enertainment from Society members, and a big house band to follow with music, song and plenty of dancing.

The book - 330 page full colour publication - has been written and edited by the Society's PRO, Noel Dundon and contains hundreds of photos taken throughout the six decades of musical theatre in the Cathedral Town. Noel, a journalist working with The Tipperary Star, has been on stage with the Society for fourteen years, and has been the AIMS National Programme Adjudicator for the last four years.
The book charts the Society's growth from inception, through the formative years, to the modern day, where an energetic, enthusiastic and musical loving company carries on the flame first lighted by our late founding father, Rev Fr William Noonan.
It book delves into the reasons behind the establishment of the Society; those responsible for it's formation; and all those who have continued to pursue musical theatre excellence during the decades since.
There are sections on the impact of the Association of Irish Musical Society on TMS and vice versa. There are comprehensive pen pictures on all our Honorary Life members - living and dead, and there are also chapters on the people behind the major and most popular musicals we have staged through the decades.
Each show undertaken by the Society is detailed in the publication with everyone who ever set foot on stage, helped out backstage, or worked in any way for the Society, included, in so far as is possible.
The Minute books have been trawled through; the newspaper archives raided; and many closets and presses in Thurles visited in a bid to dig up photographs. The result was a resounding success with many photographs included in the book which have never been seen before in a public forum.
There is a also a comprehensive list of Society Officers, Directors, Musical Directors, Patrons etc compiled which will act as a lasting source of reference for years to come.
Page to Stage is a fitting project to mark our six decades in existence and the launch night will feature great entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Our chorus has been busy putting the finishing touches on a programme which reflects the various eras and we are very much looking forward to welcoming back many former members to join us on stage.
So, mark the date in your diary - Sunday, October 30th in the Anner Hotel. It should be a special night for Thurles Musical Society, and will be a great night for everyone who attends.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
