Michael Molumby Launches Circling the Square
Congratulations to our long time member Michael Molumby who launched his first CD - Circling the Square - recently in The Premier Hall - a venue he has graced on many occasions down through the years.
Regarded as one of the finest tenors to ever come from The Cathedral Town, Michael Molumby's sweet singing voice has been marvelled at for many decades now through his endeavours with the Cathedral Choir and our Society - both of whom he has been involved with for almost thirty years.
Married to Maria, with two sons Declan and Diarmuid, this CD has been a real family effort and his daughter-in-law Jennifer has also had a keen interest in Michael's project which he says has taken a long time to finally get together.
The title -"Circling the Square" - is taken from a book 'Troubled Thoughs, Majestic Dreams' by Thurles author Denis O'Driscoll, Mill Road Thurles. And, the CD will feature the Thurles Cathedral Choir for two numbers including O Holy Night which has become one of the highlights of the annual Carol Service in Thurles at Christmas with Michael as lead vocalist. Also featured is Mr Paul Durning - a grandson of the late Dr Paddy Molony, Liberty Square, Thurles who is another beautiful tenor in a similar mould to Michael. Our own Mary Rose McNally was Musical Director for the production of the CD.
Among the many numbers featured are Bring Him Home, Moon River, Carrickfergus, Some Enchanted Evening, Be Still My Soul, My Way and the fabulous Nella Fantasia. Michael, of course would have performed many of the musical numbers with Thurles Musical Society for whom he has played a number of leading roles in shows including The Mikado, New Moon, Desert Song, South Pacific and Brigadoon. He has also starred with Clonmel and Kilkenny Musical Societies in the past.
Congrats to Michael and co for a wonderful production. We look forward to him being part and parcel of our own productions and our Society for many more years to come.
